The
cosmopolitan, modern and surprising Chinese City of
Shanghai became the capital of the Freestyle Skating
as host city of the III CIC-WSSA World Freestyle Championships
held from 17th to 24th August. This was the first time
Shanghai hosted this great event and beat all previous
records with participants from 17 nations competing.
The Shanghai Huangpu Roller Sports Hall and the Daning
International Square, located in the heart of Shanghai,
were the perfect venues to stage the elite of the international
freestyle skating.
The CIC President Roberto Marotta and the key authorities
of the World Slalom Skaters Association (WSSA) along
with the local representatives of the Chinese Roller
Skating Association (CRSA) and the Shanghai Roller Skating
Association (SRSA, who were in charge of the organization,
were all in attendance at this great event.
The local team was the undisputed winners of the weekend,
finishing at the top of the medal tally with 7 gold,
7 silver and 7 bronze showing the absolute supremacy
in front of their rivals. Singapore also had a very
solid performance and finished second with 1gold, 2
silver and 1 bronze while France took the third place
with 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.
Both Junior and Senior categories competed in Shanghai
in the Speed Slalom, Freestyle Slalom, Pair Slalom and
Slide competitions.
