Tomorrow August 13th
will be a day to remember for all Roller Skating community
around the world, as tomorrow is the day the IOC Executive
Board will meet to decide the 2 final sports for inclusion
in the 2016 Olympic Games program.
The IOC Executive Board
will meet tomorrow at the Intercontinental Hotel, Berlin
starting at 8.50am with a photo session that includes
all 15 members of the IOC Board. They will continue
discussions until 5.00pm following which the IOC President,
President Jacques Rogge, will hold a press conference
to announce the 2 final sports.
There are seven sports
currently vying for selection - Rugby Sevens, baseball,
softball, karate, squash, golf and roller sports.
At the recent World
Games held in Koashuing, Taiwan, Speed Roller Skating
received a lot of positive comments from many of the
IOC representatives who took the time out of their busy
schedule to watch the speed skating events.
Media reports from around
the World have also been very supportive of Roller Sports
inclusion in the games with reports outlining the positive
aspects of speed roller skating and its appeal to the
youth market that the IOC are looking to attract.
The FIRS and CIC, together
with many of their affiliated National Federations,
have all been working hard to gain the support of the
IOC and have recently been successfully in lobbying
many of the IOC Board and Members.
